I can't believe today is the first day of August!!! Summer is almost over???....NO! As August begins, so does the work to get my classroom ready. So, I thought I would share some of my resolutions with you. I am linking up with Amanda over at Teaching Maddeness for her New School Year Resolution Linky.
Here is my list of resolutions: (Let's hope I can do this the entire school year)
1. Resolution #1: Be Present: I don't mean show up for work regularly (I do that just fine)... I mean, be present in each moment with my students. My brain usually has about 100 things going on in it at any one time and sometimes I am not as focused on what is happening at each moment as I should be. I want to connect as much as possible with each student and I think being present could help me do that.
2. Resolution #2: Take Pictures: I am horrible at documenting my classroom and the activities we do as a class. I always think about it after we are done. Now that I am blogging, I want to have pictures to share with all of you. I also want to use the pictures to put in my monthly notebooks so I remember what a certain activity looked like when I come back to it the following year!
3. Resolution #3: Become a Stronger Writing Teacher: Writing is the one thing I am the least comfortable teaching. I think it is because it is the most abstract topic for me. I want to do a better job creating anchor charts and teaching mini lessons that lead up to the culminating writing project. I also want to create/find better ways for my students to get excited about writing.
Well, that is it for now! What are some of your new school year resolutions? Make sure to join Amanda's linky and share some of your ideas.
Great goals! Reading your post made me sad that this year I will not be starting a fresh school year with classes full of bright-eyed Junior highers... (well, some of them are bright-eyed, some of them start the year with "the glare" from day 1, lol.) Now that I'm designing full time and no longer teaching, I plan to follow teaching blogs more just to feel like I'm still in it! Happy New School Year. Lindsey www.sourapplestudio.com
Thanks for linking up to the party! Doesn't it seem like summer just started?? *sigh* I love your first resolution...I am too guilty of that with a billion things going through my mind at all times! Here's to keeping our resolutions!
#1 is a great one. It's easy to get so caught up in the planning and the to- do list that we miss the moments! Same goes for parenting! I saw you have 2 boys. I also have 2 boys and they are growing up too quickly! Melissa Teacher Treasure Hunter
Thank you for stopping by my blog and becoming a follower. I am now one of your newest followers! I look forward to reading your future posts. Good luck this school year!
#1 is so true-it's because we are so many other things besides teachers! I'd like to add that to my list too!I'm interested in your montly notebooks-can you tell us more? I entered your giveaway-it's my first one! Thanks for stopping by my blog so we could meet! Joanne Head Over Heels For Teaching
I will be documenting more of my classroom as well! If you have time stop by my blog and join my "Classroom Tours Linky Party"! I would love to see your classroom!! If you aren't ready just quite yet, share a before pic and then go back and share an after pic! :)
Great post. All three of your resolutions could have been on my list too. I've been trying to improve on being present in my own personal life this summer, hopefully that will transfer into my school life too. ✰ Stacy
I agree with all your resolutions, especially #3. Writing is my weakest area too. I'm going to work hard on it this year!
