I am linking up with Kacey at Doodle Bug Teaching for Five for Friday!

1. I must say, for the first week back from an extended break- WE HAD AN AWESOME WEEK! My kids were focused, worked hard and we accomplished many of our goals we had set for the week. I was really proud of them! Today we were finally able to finish our Let It Snow! Snowman Glyphs and Writing Activities.

We started the activity by answering questions about our opinion of winter on our white boards.
I was shocked by how many of the kids loved the snow, wanted to play in the snow and winter was their favorite season! Then I realized, snow is a novelty to my students. They hardly ever see it where we live, unless their parents take them to the mountains. I am curious how other students, who live in other parts of the country, would answer these questions about winter. Would they hate the snow? Love it? Do all kids generally love it? Just wondering....

Here are the kids putting their glyphs together based on how they answered the glyph questions.

These are a couple finished products:

I love how some of the students glued their nose to the side and others glued it straight down. It shows their creativity and different ways of thinking and interpreting information. After they assembled their snowmen, we read the story Snowmen At Night by Caralyn Buehner.
Then the kids wrote what they would do if they were a snowman at night. The kids came up with the cutest stories. One of my students wanted to open a snow hair salon and all the snowmen and snow girls would get their hair cut under a disco ball! I loved reading about all their creative ideas. Here is a picture of our stories on display:

2. We completed our New Year Resolutions and wrote about things to improve at school and at home this year.

3. I came home from work today and this little box was on my doorstep.
Can you see what is inside????

Cool Blue
Yep, my fabulous new pencil sharpener that I won from Classroom Friendly Supplies and Tania from My Second Sense! How awesome is that???? I'd say, that's a great way to start the weekend.

4. I am in the process of finishing up and putting the finishing touches on a linear measurement unit- Measuring Up! We are going to start this unit next week in class. I really dislike the way it is taught in our math series, so I really needed some fun activities to grab the kids attention. These centers, craftivity and hands-on activities will definitely do the trick. It should be up by the end of the weekend.

5. I am also looking forward to catching up with all my favorite reality Housewives shows. Especially:

I can't wait to see what drama unfolds next!
Head on over and link up with Doodle Bugs Teaching and share your Five for Friday. Have a great Friday night!

  6. Hey Jaime!
I JUST blogged about that pencil sharpener in my 5 for Friday! I bought mine after seeing so many bloggers talk about it! How fun!!

My students love snow, but I think it's because we never get any. We live in Georgia. I love snow too, until it stays for a week (and of course everything in GA shuts down because no on knows what to do) and then I'm kinda over it. :O)

It looks like you had a great week! Have a good weekend!!

  7. Those snowmen are so cute! I don't think I've ever read the book Snowmen at Night, but I've seen it everywhere so I guess I better. I'll even bet I have it in my vast library somewhere! I love how they recorded their answers on the board first. I'm sure my students would say they love snow, but I would say NO!

Another thing I've seen everywhere? That pencil sharpener! How awesome that you won one! I love my pencil sharpener, but I should probably start looking for a new one because they don't last long enough!
