Money Talks and a Giveaway Winner

This post was meant to be short and sweet because I am under the weather. But I just had to share what we have been doing in math this week AND I am excited to announce my giveaway winner, so here it is....

Who doesn't love a little money, right??? Well, this week my kiddos have been in LOVE with money. I needed to do a bit of review with my students and counting money before our state testing in a week. We started by making wallets and sorting groups of coins into correct and incorrect pockets.

My student teacher followed up our money review with another activity from my Money Talks unit.  She made piggy banks with the kids. Each child was given an amount of money less than one dollar, paper coins and a "piggy bank". They needed to show the amount of money with the least number of coins possible. Here is the finished product:

This activity has a variety of options. Another way to complete it is to show different ways to make $1.00. I also have given the students money word problems and they have to show their answer with the coins provided. I love the versatility of the activity depending on the level of my students.
